Do the things that PDS says to do. Don’t just read about them, forget about it and blame it on lack of time. Yes, it takes time and persistence, but the value is beyond worth it.

  • Navigating Change with a Successful Roadmap

Change is inevitable, especially in the independent pharmaceutical business which faces challenges on numerous fronts. Christi used insights from PDS to make positive changes at Gibbs Pharmacy — several of which boosted employee morale and helped increase the bottom line. In 2018, for example, Gibbs implemented a two bonus structure — one for individuals and one for teams. Using an outline from the PDS Resources in PDS Advantage, they implemented a team bonus program purely off profit per prescription. Gibbs believed in it so much, he decided to double the amount paid out in bonuses. With those new incentives, some motivated employees started earning bonuses that doubled their normal monthly check. And sales increased as a result of employees upselling certain OTC products, getting customers interested and enrolled in the SyncRx+ program, using a coupon card to reduce copay and getting prior authorizations or therapeutic optimizations. “Incremental income keeps getting created for our staff through these programs,” Christi says. The pharmacy’s gross profit began the year in 2018 around $14 per prescription. Months later, it had increased to $21 per prescription.

  • Providing Career Training that Helps Employees Excel

Gibbs Pharmacy, recognizing that the company can significantly benefit by investing in its employees, also implemented training for career growth. According to Christi, employees felt like they were stuck in a single position before PDS. Now the employees understand there are new opportunities. This shift in mentality has had a direct impact on morale and growth. Christi says the PDS leadership programs helped in many ways. With employees experiencing a clearer path to growth, a sense of empowerment and enjoying a better work culture, the company has started growing more quickly. “If you let go, you’ll be amazed at how capable other people are at doing certain things,” Christi says. “Then you’ll have the time to actually grow the business. To be the idea person. To be a visionary.”

“I was texting my bosses and I told them, y’all get ready because I’m about to turn your world upside down. If you want to be successful, then we are going to have to do this.”
